DeKalb choirs shine in Southmont contest

DeKalb High School show choirs opened their competition season with strong showings in a contest Saturday at Southmont High School.


DeKalb’s Classic Connection mixed choir won the grand champion award, sweeping the category awards for best vocal sound, choreography and show design. Placing second through sixth, in order, were Manteno, Illinois, Northrop, Chesterton, South Dearborn and Austin. Judges chose Brandon Park as the best performer in DeKalb’s show.


DeKalb’s Sound Sensation placed second in the women’s division and won awards for best choreography and show concept. Judges selected Christa Voirol as the best performer in DeKalb’s show. Chicagoland won the division, with Chesterton third and Northrop fourth.


DeKalb’s Sound Sensation, Classic Connection, the choirs’ Dancing Christmas Trees and Rockin’ Rudolph will participated in the annual Christmas Parade, Nov. 25 at 7 p.m. in downtown Auburn.
