Eight DeKalb FFA members competed at the National FFA Convention, Oct. 28-30 in Louisville, Kentucky.
The DeKalb FFA chapter received a three-star national award, the highest award a chapter can receive, placing it in the top 1 percent of chapters in the nation.
To qualify for national competition, each member had to win a state competition.
In the area of agriscience, Brooke-destinee Lockwood placed first, Gabe Hefty placed fifth and Ally Laker placed seventh in their respective categories.
The forestry team of Erin Sukala, LeAnna Shearer, Ellen Shearer and Brooke Evans received a national gold rating.
Leah Hefty competed in the national prepared public speaking contest and placed with a national bronze award.
FFA gives students the opportunity to use life skills taught in the classroom. Only the best of FFA’s 610,240 members qualify to compete at the national convention.
