DeKalb High School has announced the cast members for its 2015 musical production!

“The Addams Family,” a new musical based on the bizarre and beloved family of characters by legendary cartoonist Charles Addams, will open May 1 for three performances through May 3.

“The Addams Family” features an original story that is every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams has grown up and fallen in love and wants to marry a smart young man from a respectable family — a man her parents have never met. If that weren’t upsetting enough, she confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before — keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.

Seniors Brandon Park and Alison Kennedy will star as Gomez and Morticia in a cast that also includes seniors Vince Rainelli as Uncle Fester, Courtney Myers as Grandma, Tia Hackbush as Wednesday, Chris McMaken as Pugsley, Gunnar Stairhime as Lurch, Dalton Bell as Mal Beineke, Christa Voirol as Alice Beineke and Matt Irwin as Lucas Beineke. More than 75 additional DHS students complete the remaining performers, orchestra, stage crew and technical crew.

In his six-decade career, Charles Addams created several thousand cartoons, sketches and draw-ups, but it was his creation of characters that came to be known as the Addams Family that brought his greatest acclaim. With a unique style that combined the twisted, macabre and just plain weird with charm, the Addams drawings have entertained millions worldwide and served as the inspiration for television series, motion pictures, and the Addams Family musical that opened on Broadway in 2010.

DeKalb’s performances will be Friday, May 1, and Saturday, May 2, both at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, May 3, at 2 p.m. Tickets may be purchased at the DeKalb High School music office. Call 920-1012, ext. 2132, or visit www.dekalbchoirs.com for more information.
