Fifth year of CANstruction

posted Feb 11, 2014, 10:16 AM by webmaster dhs
For the fifth year, DeKalb High School's Student Council is participating in the CANstruction project, and we are seeking your support in this endeavor.  CANstruction is a non-profit organization that was established in 1992 and has become an epidemic throughout the country.
The idea behind CANstruction centers on helping our community by donating foods to local food banks.  The creators of CANstruction developed this collection into a competition.  High schools throughout the region compete in collecting non-perishable food items and monetary donations while brainstorming ideas to create a structure comprised of various non-perishable food items.
In March 2014, our student council will participate ;in this competition at Glenbrook Mall in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  We will have twelve hours to complete a fully developed structure made strictly out of non-perishable food items.  After the time limit ends, the structures will remain on display for one week for the public to enjoy.  The structures are also judged on various criteria such as "Best Use of Labels" or "Most Creative."  After one week's time, the food structures are dismantled, and the food items are then donated to local food banks throughout the county of origin.
The 2014 CANstruction Indiana competition theme is "Great Travel Destinations."  Member of student council have partnered up with local business, Team Quality Services, Inc., to brainstorm and design a structural plan to meet this year's theme with a design idea of the castle at Disney World.
Here's how you/your business can support us int hsi philanthropic endeavor:
