Kara Eck Wins Gold Medal in the Shot Put at the USA Jr. Olympics

DeKalb High School's, 2013 graduate, Kara Eck won the gold medal at the USA Track & Field Summer Jr. Olympics,Tuesday July 24th. Eck threw a personal best by nearly a meter to win the 17-18 girl's Shot Put. Her winning throw was 14.00m (45-11.25). Eck who will compete for Grand Valley State (Allendale, Mich.) next year was surprised by her performance. "I was nervous I wasn't going to make finals, once I heard my name called I took a deep breath and told myself just to go have fun now," stated Eck. "I went into the finals relaxed and ready to throw. I was over- joyed when I realized I had the winning throw. I couldn't be happier with how the day went."
