Team members William Pierce, John foster, Michael Rabe and Clayton Travis recently participated in the Moody's Mega Math Challenge.  They placed 53rd out of 1421 teams from across the nation.  They earned the accolade of honorable mention and each receives a $1000 scholarship.  The contest was organized by the Mood's Corporation and the Soc iety for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM).  The question asked of the students was to create a model to determine the caloric needs of students given various attributes, and then determine which students were having their needs met by the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010 in the student lunch program.  They examined the costs of providing a lunch to students that is both healthy and appetizing, while also meeting their caloric needs.  The findings took over 14 hours and had to be submitted in a 20 page or less report.  Sponsoring teacher was Barb Oneal.
