Winter Drumline

The DeKalb Winter Percussion is a highly competitive indoor percussion ensemble consisting of the marching battery (snareline, tenorline, bassline, cymbal line, visual line) and front ensemble (mallets, synths, auxiliary percussion, drum set, guitars, etc.) sections of a marching band.

Indoor percussion combines the elements of music performance, marching, and theater. The group consists of students from both DMS and DHS, and their season starts in November and goes into early April. This is an indoor activity, and competitions are held in gymnasiums across the state. The group has qualified for state finals for 18 years consecutively in the Indiana Percussion Association (IPA). Nationally, the DeKalb Winter Percussion was a 2021 Class A Semi-finalist in the WGI (Winter Guard International) percussion circuit.

The music and concepts are meticulously selected each year in order to create an original custom show. The DeKalb Winter Percussion shows are designed and composed by Randy Lemish, and the visual designs are by Devin Hairston and Stephen Clouse.
