DHS Veteran's Day Convocation!
DeKalb High School extends a warm invitation to all area military, veterans, and their families to attend its upcoming Veteran's Day Convocation, a special event dedicated to honoring and showing appreciation for the brave men and women who have served in the military. This event will take place on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 10:00 a.m. in the DHS gymnasium. Honored guests are encouraged to attend a reception with light refreshments at 9:30 a.m. at DHS.
DeKalb High School is proud to announce that it has been chosen by the Wounded Warriors Project: Warriors Speak team to host a distinguished guest speaker, Jennifer Jenkins, at the upcoming Veteran's Day Convocation. Jennifer Jenkins is an award-winning author, military caregiver, and an advocate for veterans and their families.
Jennifer Jenkins brings a wealth of experience and a profound commitment to the military community. She is a devoted caregiver for her brother, Specialist James W. Smith, US Army Retired, and the mother of a United States Marine. Additionally, she is the wife of a Navy veteran, making her deeply connected to the military and veteran communities.
A graduate of Indiana University, Jennifer has dedicated her career to advocacy and communications in support of veterans and their families. She is also a co-author of the book "Friends for Life: Strangers Brought Together by the War in Iraq," which received an Eric Hoffer Award for Legacy Non-Fiction. Her work has touched the lives of many and has been recognized with numerous awards, including the President's Volunteer Service Award, the Girls' Inc. Strong, Smart, and Bold Award, and the Herald-Times Everyday Hero Award.
Jennifer Jenkins is a Fellow of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation and a proud member of organizations such as the American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her dedication to the well-being of veterans and their families is evident in her tireless efforts to make a positive impact in their lives.
The Veteran's Day Convocation will provide a unique opportunity for attendees to hear Jennifer Jenkins share her inspiring journey and insights on the importance of supporting our military and veterans. Her presence at this event will undoubtedly enhance the tribute to our local heroes.
